Photo by Myett RiskerThe art show “Women” is now accepting art submission that celebrate and focus on honoring women. This art show was created to commemorate women through female artist’s interpretations featuring various mediums and themes displaying their gifts, strengths and talents. The March opening of Women will be held at The Detroit Contemporary (formerly known as, and still under the umbrella of, The CAID).

March is nationally recognized as “Women’s Month.” Before the women’s movement in the sixties, scholars and society felt that women did not have a history worth knowing. So, in 1978 women’s week was born; now over 40 years later it has evolved into women’s month. Realizing that women have made undeniable contributions to society of great leaders and pioneers such as Freedom Fighter, Harriet Tubman “Grandma Moses”; Texas Senator, Barbara Jordon; Actress, Sigourney Weaver; and of course Women’s Advocate, Gloria Steinem, “Like art, revolutions come from combining what exists into what has never existed before.”
